Hinterland by Lyn Vaughan

About the Works

I have painted large abstracts, traditional portraits, enjoyed life drawing and have worked in various media.  I have always been drawn to the slightly surreal, slightly bizarre and the question of is it serious or not?  It is the contrast, abstract via figurative, imagination via reality and the enigma of which is which.

In my paintings I want to visually express the curious hinterland that exists between an everyday occurrence and the intervention of the imagination that holds the fascination.

About the Artist

Lyn was born and grew up near Gravesham in Kent where she developed a love for expressing herself through her paintings.  During her time in Kent she held several exhibitions and successfully sold her work through local galleries.

She then decided it was time to move and made her way to Stockholm which inspired her work even further until she returned to England and settled in Cambridge.  It was here that she developed her painting techniques and was commissioned to paint several portraits whilst continuing to exhibit her work within galleries in the community.

Lyn then returned to Kent where she was accepted to study for a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Canterbury.  Since the completion of this course she has consistently sold her work both at home and abroad including Germany, Sweden and Gibralter.

Lyn now lives and paints in Whitstable, Kent.  She loves living by the sea and finds it both relaxing and invigorating.  Whitstable boasts many artists/painters, musicians, photographers and writers.  It is within this artistic colony that Lyn finds herself setting up a new studio in her new but historical abode ready for the next phase of her creative achievement.
